Sometimes it just seems easier to remove brake fluid from the reservoir and put new stuff in once a year and never 'bleed' it. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

I had a job that was never going to go well. Removing the blowing exhaust headers from my old 2007 CBF1000.
The bike has now done 122,000 miles and 16 winters with the original exhaust never being disturbed. I could see that 2 of the nuts were visibly eaten away by corrosion, but the rest looked ok. However I was expecting everything to be totally seized.
I cleaned them up as best as I could reach and treated them to a week of daily Plusgas soaking.
The nuts to the furthest left and right both moved, but they've lived their lives with the least spray from the front wheel. The rest of the nuts were solid.
The results so far? Out of the 8 I managed to get 4 to come out cleanly, although it was the studs that turned out. All the nuts are firmly welded to the studs with corrosion. 2 snapped studs and the 2 heavily corroded nuts just crumbled.
So, next step is to try to clear the remains of the 2 crumbled nuts from the studs so I can get the headers off. Then I'll waste time and effort trying to turn out the 4 stuck studs before I eventually lose patience, cut them off, drill them out and helicoil them.
I've got new(ish) headers with only 25k miles to fit. ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

Note to self .... the reason your bike isn't showing anything on the glass level is because you bought a 4 litre tub not the usual 5 litre size you get for the car you dick
Spent a good 10 minutes wondering why it wasn't showing up even though i'd emptied down to just above the 1L remaining mark ( it takes 3.8ish L to fill) before i realised i'd only stuck 3L in the bloody thing. ____________________ Module 1 and 2 passed - October 2014. My old Ducati ST2.
Put a new battery in it.
Ordered a rev counter.
Refreshed the brake and clutch fluids.
Insured it.
Gave it a spin and for a bike with 55700 on the clock she still sounds and pulls great.
Next up MOT and tax. *I'll be out on it this weekend.

Still slowly working on this mz ts150. Unseized the tacho drive shaft from the bushing, meaning the ratchet mechanism on the rear of the clutch basket (primarily for kickstarter- but also the tacho mechanism rides on it) isn't always...ratcheting. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Got some indicators, kinda working. In real life, they flash so fast they seem solid.

The rear running light is pulsing in sync. Bad earth or just very weak power generation from the engine? ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

The big red thing passed the MOT.
Taxed it and took it out to rattle some windows.
Rode to superbike factory bike sales and sat on loads of bikes.
The Triumph Tiger felt homely as did the Tracer 900 GT. To be honest you can tour on anything if you put your mind to it.
Still adore the Norton Commando but don't have the confidence in those Stuart Garner years of production. The latest models are out of my price range.
That led me onto the Bonniville range of Triumphs.
ThruxtonR now that's a bike that fitted me well.
Once we've got the roof done on the house and if I'm a sensible it's a contender for next bike down the line.
Back home on the duke and still pulls like a locomotive and handles so well.

I bought a new fuel filter from Wemoto but then thought it must be wrong because the inlet and outlet diameters were visibly different. However, the old one is the same, and when I unwrapped the short, S-shaped, non-braided OE hose (£8.48 from Colchester Kawasaki) which connects the fuel tap to the filter I saw that one end of the hose (on the right here) is also slightly bigger inside (and out) than the other (9.3mm ID vs 7.5mm ID). If fitted the wrong way round the hose is too loose on the filter. So it was OE hose or nothing, I suppose. Seems like an odd design.

Actually no, front pulses too. Indicators don't work at all with main lamp on unless you rev the thing. I've cut back all the wires to good core and terminated properly so not sure I can do much else for free. The battery however was reading 5.95v so needs a good long charge. That'll probably help a bit. The thing actually had mostly original factory bulbs in it which I thought was cool. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11
