If you overfill an older engine like the one on my enfield, unless you go to the extent of hydrolocking it, it just spits it out of the crankcase breather until it has the correct amount again. I've overfilled it a couple of times when it wet-sumped while parked up and I topped it up thinking it was low. So you land up with about 200ml more than you ought to have as it pumps the crankcase out.
Makes an unholy mess and smokes a bit for a short while but no real mechanical damage.
I know better now and run the engine for a couple of minutes before checking the dipstick. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
