fortnine has a recentish nice video about parallel twins and emissions regulations and I suspect the recent demise of the gsxr and now r1 would all point to this. ____________________ Gone: Yamaha DT50lc, Suzuki DR500, Suzuki A100, Kawasaki z250ltd, RD350YPVS, Suzuki DR Big, Kawasaki AR125, Kawasaki KMX200, Suzuki GS1000S, Katana 1100, GS550M, Suzuki RGV250

There aren't enough younger people that want to ride a 190bhp 1000cc sportsbike or any cc sportsbikes.
The sports bike magazines are nearly gone.
Motorcycle racing is on the cusp of being niche.
The sales reflect this.
Sales for smaller capacity bikes are decent. KTM and Triumph know that the future generations and sales are in India and South Asia.
It's no surprise why sportsbike sales have dropped. They're expensive to design and make and there aren't enough people buying them.
If the demand was high for 200bhp rice-burners they'd be making them.
One time a long long time ago getting your first taste of affordable transportation meant getting a bike..a 50cc then do a once 'round the block and voila you have a full bike licence.
Now it's cheaper and easier to get a car.
It's not sad it's sense.
It's not emissions as bike makers are clever and know that instead of having a inline 4 600cc rev to 15,000 to make 100bhp they can make a twin that's 900cc revs to 10,000 and makes more grunt n power and still meet emission testing with engine management.
New brands with big production numbers are in the marketplace.
Bikes are fine, they'll continue being fine.
They're the most fun form of transport and have and always will be cool... whatever that means.
They've made lots n lots...enough for those that still want a crotch rocket without having to shell out silly money for the few companies making track focussed playthings.
The older generations are enjoying their uber powerful adventure/tourer bikes and they're enjoying the reliable modern classics.
The few young daft sods that don't mind getting cold n wet are still getting their kicks.
